Royally Kranked

Tuesday, January 31, 2006

Boy, I was pissed off yesterday with the Dems rolling & caving, but now I'm LIVID!

I'm almost sure now I'm being monitored from time to time, and my own blog-Which I've saved EVER entry from, is what I'm offering up here

The first inkling I had something might be up was with a bit of information I posted about originally here

http://royallykranked.blogspot.com/2006/01/original-attempt-with-this-post-can-be_10.html

I found both a google cache AND a link to the White House's own press releases about the date W announced the replacement for the US Attorney in Guam he demoted after launching an active investigation into Jack Abramoff

That date was Nov 19, 2002, when W announced both Frederick Black's demotion AND announcwed his replacement, Leonardo Rapadas

The original google cache was found here

http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache:a4rdQDGxgFIJ:www.whitehouse.gov/news/nominations/1155.html+Leonardo+Rapadas&hl=en&client=firefox-a

And if the above address given is shortened via elipsis, check out the info in the address bar above, you'll see the name Leonardo Rapadas-This next part of the link is what may not show up except in the address window above

/1155.html+Leonardo+Rapadas&hl=en&client=firefox-a

Now, hit the complete link above and see what name comes up, and even more absurdly, the name Leonardo Rapadas actually appears at the top of the now misdirected page with this text

These terms only appear in links pointing to this page: leonardo rapadas

Now, check out this next part for yourselves

The "Leonardo Rapadas" google cache link takes you to the page which shows this individuals information

Presidential Nomination
John Scott Redd
Position: Director of the National Counterterrorism Center
Status: Appointed
Date of Announcement: June 10, 2005
Date Nomination Sent to the Senate: June 30, 2005
Date of Confirmation by the Senate: July 28, 2005

Now, hit the links at the top of the "Leonardo Rapadas" google cache page, and watch how other names come up, names that start with the letter "R"

And notice how each link redirects to someone else whose last name starts with "R"

So, for the link at the very top of the page

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/nominations/1155.html

You get information not about Leonardo Rapadas, but instead

David Michael Rappoport
Position: Trustee
Udall Scholarship/environmental Policy Foundation Board
Status: Pending
Date of Announcement: August 16, 2004
Date Nomination Sent to the Senate: January 24, 2005

And when you hit the next link, the actual White House site itself, the one that originally showed Leonardo Rapadas, you get the above information as well

So one google cache link is misdirected away from Rapadas and takes you, instead, to two different individuals if all the links on the google cache link are clicked

I wasn't aware of any of the redirects-other than to the google page that said the info I was looking for didn't match any search parameters until today

But not knowing about the multiple redirects at the time, I decided instead with my update

http://royallykranked.blogspot.com/2006/01/just-quick-update-about-long-post.html

to link to the actual White House Press Release, and instead of getting the Leonardo Rapadas information-which CAN still be gotten to-more in a bit-THIS information came up instead

Marguerita Dianne Ragsdale
Position: Ambassador to Djibouti
US Ambassadors (147) Department of State
Status: Appointed
Date of Announcement: October 15, 2003
Date Nomination Sent to the Senate: October 15, 2003
Date of Confirmation by the Senate: December 9, 2003

The links that I used now all redirect away from the Leonardo Rapadas nomination and instead take you to other nominees whose last names start with "R"

So, as I stated on the entry, I have an exact copy of the White House page

So, since I KNOW someone's been changing information on the links I posted in this case, I decided to make this as much work as possible for this censorship loving, pinheaded Jackass

Here's how you find the information about Leonardo Rapadas-at the White House site no less-step by step

on any of the redirected pages, look at the top of the page for THIS line

Home > News & Policies > Nominations by Name

And hit the

"Nominations by Name" link

On This page

Bush Administration Nominations by Name

Read THIS line

Click on the last name to view nominations details.

And then hit the link

R-T

Which will take you to page with last names starting with "R",

Scroll down somewhat, and you'll find

Leonardo Matias Rapadas Guam
Leonardo Matias Rapadas Northern Marinara Islands

Hit the "Rapadas" link for both Guam

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/nominations/1152.html

& Northern Mariana Islands,

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/nominations/1153.html

and you'll get this info on both pages

Presidential Nomination
Leonardo Matias Rapadas
Position: Guam
US Attorneys (94) Department of Justice
Status: Appointed
Date of Announcement: November 19, 2002
Date Nomination Sent to the Senate: January 28, 2003
Date of Confirmation by the Senate: May 9, 2003

&

Presidential Nomination
Leonardo Matias Rapadas
Position: Northern Marinara Islands
US Attorneys (94) Department of Justice
Status: Appointed
Date of Announcement: November 19, 2002
Date Nomination Sent to the Senate: January 28, 2003
Date of Confirmation by the Senate: May 9, 2003

This absolutely amazes me, that someone's got enough time to monitor my barely read blog and then redirect pages away from the links I've found

I'm not scared I'm being monitored, I'm royally goddamned pissed off

Since that Google Cache was the first link that got misdirected, I guess that means they're not fighting W's Administration as hard as we'd been led to believe, although if this was done without Google's okay, then I'm more than willing to file a complaint-any suggestions

This is NOT hyperbole, there's no way these links all redirected themselves, and by God it's something everyone needs to get pissed off about as well

I said it in a previous post, and I'm saying it again even more forcefully now

FUCK YOU W, AND YOUR SCUMSUCKING PARASITICAL CRONIES, INCOMPETENT HACKS ALL EXCEPT WHEN IT COMES TO ENRICHING THEIR CORPORATIONS AND BELLIES OF THEMSELVES AND THEIR CRONIES!

The theologically extreme jackasses & jerkoffs that back W's Administration were all but doing victory laps around Washington DC with their latest anti-choice protest on the Roe Vs Wade Anniversary, and in the process show just how clearly deluded the more fanatical of their brethren obviously are

bypass registration with this Bug Me Not link

The Misogynistic & Homophobic retards spew their vile hope in the guise of some very perverted "family values"

Ray Nagin and Franklin Graham have recently propounded that foul weather is a sign of God's wrath, so the cold rain and dark clouds over the annual March for Life yesterday might have been cause for concern. But antiabortion leaders took the gloom and damp as a different sort of sign. "I think it's God's way of cleansing the evil in the world," Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Ohio) told the ebullient crowd of tens of thousands.

We all remember the cute & cuddly Jean Schmidt above, the Republican with a spine of stone who insulted veteran & lawmaker John Murtha's call for a complete Iraq withdrawal when practicable

My bad, instead of saying "spine of stone", I meant spine of overcooked pasta, as she caved within 15 minutes of her lively comments

Now, this is exuberance, but of the "I've got a great feeling about the lottery tonight since I have over 10 tickets" type

"This might be our last march!" exulted Steven Peroutka, chairman of the National Pro-Life Action Center, addressing a crowd of about 500 activists in the Russell Senate Office Building. "Our next march very well may be the March to Celebrate the Overturning of Roe v. Wade!" The crowd went nuts.

Or this might NOT be your last march, and it may not be celebrating the overturning of Roe v Wade

And right away, we run into yet another of the major theologically & willfully ignorant pious frauds & hypocrites this Administration attracts like flies to a fresh carcass

The Rev. Rob Schenk, president of the National Clergy Council, concurred. "If things continue as they are going right now," he told the gathering, sponsored by Sen. Mike DeWine (R-Ohio), "our greatest challenge will be to prepare for the post- Roe era!"

Fair enough, I would hope your "Greatest Challenge" includes brushing up on the part of the Bible you're obviously not familiar with-if you've ever even read past Leviticus, the New Testament, the part of the bible that deals with the deity YOU claim to follow

As it turns out, I've written about this particular fucktard before, and lets see just what kind of Christian Compassion he showed a group of families & friends who had undergone the most hellish of tragedies, a situation where they had steeled themselves for the worst, then had their hopes joyously raised & prayers seemingly answered before having that most exuberant & heartfelt of joy crushed brutally & publicly

First, one Christian extremist says that the families of the miners killed in West Virginia weren't holy enough on a regular basis when they prayed to God to keep their loved ones safe. The enormous cruelty of the "miscommunications" of resigned sorrow & grief swinging to the most joyous & ecstatic of miracles, of hope fulfilled and second chances granted. And then....... Due to understandably letting their defenses down-thanks to lack of sleep among other reasons-having that joy put through the most brutal of mental & emotional meatgrinders by hearing the real death toll of their loved ones in the Sago Mine, those families have undergone the most horrific of public experiences How many of us were absolutely thankful that wasn't us or any people we cared about, how many of us felt that very thankful layer of necessary detachment that let us both feel like we were kicked in the gut BUT without the mindnumbing, heartwrenching grief that strikes any survivors whose loved ones die the most public of deaths? Keep all that crushing, overwhelming & devastating grief in a West Virginia town in the front of your memory when reading this

Schenk's Stand For Family Values

Conservative Christian leader Rob Schenck of the National Clergy Council said yesterday that, although millions of prayers were being offered across the nation, he was struck by the irony of the situation, which he feels demonstrates a sad truth about America. "We often turn to God only when we feel like nothing else can be done," Schenck notes. "And, in the Bible, God rebuked nations who only turned to Him in their most extreme moments of need." But sadly, the Christian activist observes, "That has been our tradition in the United States. Whenever we find ourselves in a situation where we get to the end of our own resources, we turn to God." Schenck says it is ironic that a culture that tries to banish God from its existence seeks His intervention under circumstances like the tragedy that unfolded in West Virginia this week.

Nothing like saying people crushed by a brutal & public ordeal weren't holy enough for God to take pity on to show your true faith to Christ is there Schenky?

And now the bloviatings of a truly loathsome parasite fit in so perfectly here

"We must support the confirmation of Judge Alito and other jurists who will support a strict-constructionist view of the law and make it possible once and for all to end Roe v. Wade ," Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.), a leading House conservative, thundered.

I wrote about Overseer Pence before, he's real big on trying to help the rich by really sticking it to the poor

Which means once the child is born, Pence has never met a social safety net for the poor that he didn't like ripping to shread-except his taxpayer-funded social safety net of free medical care for himself and his family

Pence loves the fetus & hates the child

The ceremonies began with a "National Memorial for the Pre-Born" in the Russell Caucus Room, where marchers overflowed from the chairs and sat 12 deep along the wall. A Baptist choir sang "It's All About You, Jesus," for the worshipers, including the family of the late Terri Schiavo.

Bring in the family that ended up getting the GOP's fringe-rightwing bitchslapped so unmercifully last year, and tie it to the Pro/Anti choice debate, and only one word applies at the sheer genius of this move

BRILLIANT!!!

Seems that if it really WAS "all about you, Jesus", the time, effort & money could have been spent actually improving the lives of poor, sick, foster & orphaned children, an agenda written about by a VERY wise, compassionate poster

Now we're getting into the real wingnut territory here

The Rev. Frank Pavone, the national director of Priests for Life, saw the movement's success as "a response to Jesus Christ, and it is confirmation that He, alone, is Lord." Pavone continued: "We don't have the Ark of the Covenant in 2006. We are the Ark of the Covenant."

Let's find out a little more about Rev "We ARE the Ark of the Covenant" Pavone
The Rev. Frank Pavone, head of Priests for Life, declared that no one who is pro-choice is fit to hold public office in America. Even though his group is tax exempt, Pavone promised it would influence the outcome of the November races. “Of course I’m trying to influence the election!” Pavone said. “This is what it means to be an American.” Pavone asserted that Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court ruling that legalized abortion, ushered in an era like the Nazi Holocaust. “Why do we tolerate it in our nation?” he asked. A moment later, he likened supporting legal abortion to supporting terrorism.

Yeah, I know that Anti-Choice fanatics are always getting gunned down by extremist pro-choicers, right

Oh yeah, apparently, Pavone's an expert on marriage-being an unmarried Priest and all-and enthusiastically endorses This Catholic singles dating service

But the best, the crown jewel of wingnutty willfully ignorant drama queens, was provided by the obviously overwrought Rev James Nesbit
"It has been told by the prophets in the land that there is a president coming out of Texas, a Burning Bush," Nesbit prayed. "He will deal with abortion in the land. We ask you to give him an executive order and mantle him and give him a mandate with the fear of the Lord." The pastor took even the relocation of this year's march closer to the Capitol as an act of God, "a prophetic sign that this march has been moved seven blocks closer," saying: "We are closer to the end than ever before!"

I gues I'm a bad Christian, as I don't remember any mention of the US Capitol or an incoming antiabortion march towards said Capitol in the book of Revelations

Lameass stupid theological jerkoffs, I have no time for them or their Misery-Making Agenda

London's River Thames whale dies during rescue attempt

The River Thames whale died Saturday as rescue workers attempted to take it out to sea for release, Britain's Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said.

The animal suffered a series of convulsions at 7 p.m (1900GMT) and had been struggling with the effects of being out of the water as it was ferried on a barge toward the Thames Estuary.

Swaddled in blankets on the rusting salvage barge, the whale - watched by thousands in London as it spent two days swimming up the River Thames past some of the capital's most famous landmarks - had shown signs of increasing stress and stiffening muscles, an indicator it was in serious difficulty.

"We understand from the vet onboard the salvage vessel that the whale suffered a series of convulsions at around 7p.m (1900GMT) and died," said Katy Geary, a spokeswoman for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

London's Wayward Whale Dies During Rescue Attempt

The lost and distressed whale stranded in the River Thames died Saturday as rescue workers attempted to ferry it out to sea for release, an animal rights group said.

The 20-foot-long Northern bottlenose whale had been lifted onto a barge by rescuers and was being taken downriver toward the North Sea when it suffered convulsions and died, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said.

***********************************

When sick, old or injured, whales often get disoriented and swim away from their pod, said Mark Simmonds, science director at the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society.

Some people reported seeing a second whale in a different section of the river Friday.

Last week, marine officials said they saw two bottlenose whales in northeastern Scotland when the mammals are normally seen in northwestern Scotland. That, coupled with the second sighting Friday, could suggest that something is disrupting the whales, Sadler said.

Scientists have said fluctuating ocean temperatures, predators, lack of food and even sonar from ships can send whales into waters that are dangerous for the mammals.

"It's extremely rare for one to turn up in a river in the United Kingdom. I suspect that the animal may be in ill health," said Tony Martin, a senior scientist with the British Antarctic Survey.

"It's going to be very confused. It's already stranded twice. The poor creature doesn't know where to go."

Reference to Sonar Deleted in Whale-Beaching Report

Documents released under a court order show that a government investigator studying the stranding of 37 whales on the North Carolina coast last year changed her draft report to eliminate all references to the possibility that naval sonar may have played a role in driving the whales ashore.

**********************************

The January 2005 stranding occurred shortly after naval maneuvers in the area -- which is off North Carolina and in the region where the Pentagon wants to build a controversial underwater sonar training range.

In her initial April 2005 preliminary report on the deaths, Teri Rowles, coordinator of the National Marine Fisheries Service's stranding response program, described injuries to seven of the whales that "may be indicative" of damage related to the loud blasts of sound from active sonar.

She also noted that one of the injuries -- air bubbles in the liver of a pilot whale -- had been reported in mass strandings in the Bahamas and Canary Islands associated with sonar activity.

***********************************

But before it was released by NRDC, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released an updated report -- by Rowles and others -- that did not mention sonar. In a cover letter to that report, NOAA officials said the initial draft that mentioned sonar "contains early information that was later found to be inaccurate."

And it appears that the feds were trying to delay publishing this report for purely time-sensitive, political reasons

The federal court order to release the report came at an awkward time for NOAA and the Navy, which has been holding public hearings on its controversial plan to build an underwater sonar training range.

The public record on that issue will close at the end of the month, and some activists have complained that officials are trying to withhold information about the stranding until after that time. In its court filings, NRDC argued that it was unfair to complete the hearings before information about the strandings was released.

Oh yeah, just one other little nugget of info here

The Navy has also acknowledged that sonar can harm whales. A Navy-NOAA investigation found that sonar from Navy ships was the most plausible explanation for the stranding of 17 whales in the Bahamas in 2000. The report found that sonar-induced damage to the ears of some animals may have disoriented them and caused them to swim onto the shore.

This Administration is clearly motivated to act on behalf of only it's largest campaign contributors, both on an individual, and industrial basis, and the amount of money at stake in developing new sonar equipment for W's campaign contributors is heavy indeed

It's nothing personal when this Administration rapes the envivronment on an hourly basis, it's purely business, just like a pimp renting out one of his girls to a rape-loving client with a fat, overstuffed wallet

Now, that picture at the top goes with the following story, and I just thought visualizing one of these sometimes wayward whales would make it easier to get upset about the above-mentioned & massively changed report about Sonar injuring whales, especially as seeing how this whale at times tried to seemingly beach itself, an action indicative of a whale's now-scrambled auditory system

Whale Brings Gawkers, Concern in London

A lost and likely sick whale swam up the River Thames past Parliament and Big Ben in central London on Friday, attracting huge crowds and a police boat escort before nearly beaching itself on the shallow riverbank.

****************************************

"The fact that it is swimming upstream is not a good sign," said Alison Shaw, a manager of the Zoological Society of London, Marine & Freshwater Conservation Program. "The whale must be confused or ill."

****************************************

"The whale's chances are not particularly good," Sabian said. "We hope it will swim back to sea."

Mark Simmonds, director of the Science, Whale & Dolphin Conservation Society, said the whale may be debilitated.

"When whales turned up in strange places before, they have been old, sick or wounded," Simmonds said.

Dead whales to pay off major campaign contributors supersweet contracts with the Dept of Defense

Just another day for the Bush Jr Administration

Thursday, January 19, 2006

So, the Administration has laid out it's detailed propaganda about how W's no-longer-secret wiretapping without a warrant is perfectly legal because of the threat of terrorists

The Administration assures us that ALL it's actions have only one goal in mind, to keep the public safe from another devastating attack like which occured on 9-11-01

Of course, that's rather hard to see being the prime purpose of one's White House tenure when one's own political strategist takes part in deliberately outing a CIA operative & her entire overseas network of double agents & contacts whose sole job was to track & disrupt the transfer of WsMD to rogue regimes, groups & individuals

It's never been pointed out exactly HOW outing Valerie Plame in a fit of political pique made this country safer, or the efforts to not only recruit overseas operatives AND disrupting the transfer of WsMD to rogue regimes, groups & individuals are now accomplished easier than before Plame was sacrificed for political purposes

Oh yeah, the main rant

When I read the article, I had a few questions form which I'd like to ask W to answer then & there

Lets set the stage for these questions so far unasked of the President

bypass registration with this Bug Me Not link

Administration Lays Out Legal Case for Wiretapping Program

The Bush administration today offered its fullest defense of the National Security Agency's domestic eavesdropping program, saying that congressional authorization to defeat Al Qaeda after the Sept. 11 attacks "places the president at the zenith of his powers in authorizing the N.S.A. activities.".....But the Bush administration appears undeterred by the criticism. In its white paper, it turned time and again to the congressional authorization of Sept. 14, 2001, even though the Congressional Research Service study was particularly skeptical of this line of defense.

And once again, who pushes the Unitary Executive concept harder right now than either Cheney or Gonzalez

Vice President Dick Cheney defended the administration's approach today in a speech before the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research in New York City.

"A spirited debate is now under way, and our message to the American people is clear and straightforward," Mr. Cheney said. "These actions are within the president's authority and responsibility under the Constitution and laws, and these actions are vital to our security."

In his appearance before the institute, Mr. Cheney defended the program as proper and legal in every respect. "The entire program undergoes a thorough review within the executive branch every 45 days," Mr. Cheney said. "After each review, the president determines once again whether or not to reauthorize the program. He has done so more than 30 times since Sept. 11, and he has indicated his intent to do so as long as our nation faces a continuing threat from Al Qaeda and related organizations."

Oh well, that's good enough for me, I mean, how can any of us NOT buy into the all-powerful and unchecked Presidential authority Cheney assures one & all is perfectly legitimate

So, here's a question Dear Leader should have to answer publicly

Do you have the authority to unilaterally postpone Presidential Elections without an okay from both the Congress & the Senate?

Sunday, January 15, 2006

Are you fucking kidding me?!

No, really, are you fucking kidding me?!

In a two-term helping of outright lies & BS, Cheney's self-assessment of why W's second term has flailed from before the 2005 inauguration, is absolutely one of the most selfish, arrogant, truly vile in it's absolute coldness towards the lives of those he doesn't know or care about, statements to come out of this Administration, right up there with Rumsfeld's "You go to war with the army you have, not the army you wish you had" reply to a soldier who selfishly asked just why US troops should have to scrounge through landfill to uparmor their humvees.

Cheney concedes failure to boost backing for war

Vice President Cheney admits the administration fell behind the curve in the debate over Iraq last year, allowing its adversaries to attack current policy without an adequate response and focusing on other issues.

Neither Cheney nor President Bush plans to make that mistake again. In an interview with U.S. News, Cheney said, "You do have to keep a sustained campaign going. There's no question about it. Last fall, obviously, there were a lot of other items on the agenda. We went through the whole exercise with Katrina and the hurricanes and disaster relief and so forth that was, I suppose, a bit of a distraction. But it is important to try to maintain public support for what we're doing out there."

Excuse me?

So Katrina was an "exercise" was it?

NOT a disaster of so much unnecessary & still-unrepaired/unreplaced damage, with over 1000 dead, people who died because the President froze & stayed on vacation for 3 days after New Orleans drowned & people died, instead of showing the strong, decisive leadership he claimed in multitudes of scripted "public" settings

An "exercise", "a bit of a distraction". eh?

Cheney's mindset, while not a surprise considering the Administration he sets policy for, is still unsettling for his inability to notice that the lives of people he doesn't personally know actually do matter, they do make a huge damn difference in a far more positive way for this world than Cheney ever could or will

Lots of dead, maimed & traumatized Iraqis

Lots of dead, maimed & traumatized US Troops

God, the gall of that flat-affected statement, the absolute hubris of a ChickenHawking Engineer of War, yet another Administrative official who takes no note of the lives under the helmets & behind the trigger for the US forces in both Iraq & Afghanistan

Cheney's another one of those officials who had no problem deliberately sending US Troops into battle underequipped with enough effective body & vehicle armor, something that's indefensible from either a logical or ethical perspective

With that mindset, it's no wonder Cheney put up no resistance to the idea of using Torture as an official US policy of interrogation & investigation, it's no wonder he can so blithely insist that the only way to keep the US public safe from another terrorist attack is to restrict even more of our former freedoms.

The idea of acknowledging anyone's suffering is absolutely alien to this VP, as is the idea that more loyalty is owed to the country & the Constitution than the current DC regime he's profited so handsomely from, while simultaneously insisting on untrammelled rights for THIS Administration to grant itself at any time

What the dwindling-by-the-hour-true Bush Jr believers haven't understood yet, apparently, is that at some point, those they despise ideologically will control the various levels of DC political power

For all their safe-from-the-sidelines Administrative shilling & lackeying, the true Bush lovers fail to see how their own efforts-especially the Patriot Act & secret warrantless searches conducted on purely domestic based electronic communications-have made it much easier to use their own dark impulses against themselves & their various pet causes in the future when a liberal controls the White House and/or liberals control either the House, the Senate, or both

Let's see if these same lovers of unrestricted Presidential powers agree with those same policies when it's a liberal President seeking access to the membership rosters of various Pro 2nd Amendment groups & individuals, or an in-depth & detailed IRS look at the finances of various Rightwing theologies, churches, Priests, Pastors, Ministers, & Rabbis ala a secret, warrantless search of said targets

Watch how quickly the shrill, hypocritical squealing begins with yet another reprise of the Ever-GOP popular mantra "poor little us, the picked-upon & put upon GOP" self-martyrdom of the most base kind

Oh yeah, I'm glad to personally say that the following is something I can lob back at Cheney here, as I actually found an interesting article about just why Cheney's efforts haven't done the trick turning public opinion around about either the President or W's Iraq MeatGrinder Crusade

On the road stumping for the administration's Iraq policy, the veep says he gets a good reaction almost wherever he goes. "I find when I get out around the country and talk with people about it, that most of the ones I interact with are very understanding and very supportive. That doesn't mean, obviously, that everybody agrees with the policy. Clearly, there are a number of folks who don't. But I think if they have time to think about it, presented with the question, 'Do you think we ought to immediately withdraw from Iraq?' I think the vast majority of Americans would say no."(US News)

So, speaking of those who don't agree with his Iraq policy, how would Cheney try and positively spin this public bitchslapping-by way of almost dead silence, at yet another pre-digested & scripted/staged "public" appearance in front of only Administrative believers, operatives & voters?

And even weirder, does Cheney REALLY think what he witnessed with his own eyes regarding US training of Iraq security forces can overcome a vicious & clever insurgency via it's "Power Of Positive Thinking" approach to international sticky wickets of its own creation?

From my original post HERE

Shouts of "hooah!" from the audience interrupted Cheney a few times, but mostly the service members listened intently. When he delivered the applause line, "We're in this fight to win. These colors don't run," the only sound was a lone whistle.

His next visit was to Taji Air Base, where he saw tanks that Iraqis had rebuilt and watched while they practiced a vehicle sweep at a security checkpoint.

U.S. forces guarded Cheney with weapons at the ready while Iraqi soldiers, who had no weapons, held their arms out as if they were carrying imaginary guns.

"The Syrian border is back under Iraq control now," U.S. Lt. Gen. Marty Dempsey told the vice president, pointing to a map of Iraqi troop locations. "When people say, 'When will Iraq take control of its own security?' the answer truly is it already has."

Great, I suppose the Iraqis next lesson will be the ever popular "Point Your Finger At The Suicidal Insurgent, Go Bang, Then Wish For It To Work" approach of security/military training

Just a quick update about the long post below

The link involving the cache of Leonardo Rapados doesn't work or come up correctly

Seeing as how this is not the biggest blog in the world, I'm more inclined to go with a simple, not sinister, explanation

Yet

There's an easy way to test out the obvious here though

Let's try This Link instead

Frederick Black-Demoted personally by President Bush Jr, Nov. 19, 2002

Leonardo Rapadas, Personally nominated by President Bush Jr to Succeed Frederick Black

Date of Announcement: November 19, 2002

I also saved the complete page this time as well

Tuesday, January 10, 2006

The original attempt with this post can be found HERE

While responding to a forum post, I went back & realized a few things about this combination of stories

First off, out of all the Abramoff scandals, I'd say this one-the suppression of the Dept Homeland Security report-is definitely the most serious, and the questions it raises about President Jr's role in protecting the GOP's top lobbyist are unsettling

And the questions regarding why the DHS report was suppressed only become more maddening when considering how truly horrific the results of such a terrorist attack could end up

And what I really overlooked was that the FBI & DoJ have both conducted their own inquiries as to the timing of Black's demotion

But first, let's recap the key info

A google cache for the now pay-archived LA Times story, as it was printed on numerous other sites

A google cache for the now pay archived NY Times story, as it was also printed on numerous other sites

And the Bloomberg article

For easy reference, a graph with either (LAT), (NYT) or (BLMB) will identify the story’s original sources/passages

The U.S. Justice Department never acted on a post-Sept. 11 proposal, contested by lobbyist Jack Abramoff, calling for increased federal control over immigration to the Mariana Islands.

The agency reassigned the two officials who produced a 34- page report that contained the proposal, and House members of both parties who oversee the Homeland Security and Justice departments said they were never told about it. The 2002 report, a copy of which was obtained by Bloomberg News, warns that continued local control over the Marianas' borders will ``seriously jeopardize the national security'' of the U.S.” (BLMB)

It wasn’t actually the Agency so much did the reassigning as it was someone slightly higher up the chain of command

“A U.S. grand jury in Guam opened an investigation of controversial lobbyist Jack Abramoff more than two years ago, but President Bush removed the supervising federal prosecutor and the inquiry ended soon after...... In Guam, an American territory in the Pacific, investigators were looking into Abramoff's secret arrangement with Superior Court officials to lobby against a court revision bill then pending in the U.S. Congress. The legislation, since approved, gave the Guam Supreme Court authority over the Superior Court.” (LAT)

What we have here is independent confirmation-from two separate stories-about a Dept of Homeleand Security report-that ended up suppressed or permanently delayed, in spite of the fact that it's release to the top democrats & republicans in both the House & the Senate was congressionally mandated, and it's a role Abramoff either performed himself, or complained about so loudly that only someone higher up the political food chain could get away with suppressing it on behalf of the GOP's top lobbyist

What we learn from multiple sources as well is that the FBI & DoJ have already launched their own investigations into the timing of Black's demotion

Also, notice the very last paragraph quoted next, especially about Black's orders after being demoted

The Justice Department's inspector general and the F.B.I. are looking into the demotion of a veteran federal prosecutor whose reassignment nearly three years ago shut down a criminal investigation of the Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff, current and former department officials report.

They said investigators had questioned whether the demotion of the prosecutor, Frederick A. Black, in November 2002 was related to his alert to Justice Department officials days earlier that he was investigating Mr. Abramoff. The lobbyist is a major Republican Party fund-raiser and a close friend of several Congressional leaders.

Colleagues said the demotion of Mr. Black, the acting United States attorney in Guam, and a subsequent order barring him from pursuing public corruption cases brought an end to his inquiry into Mr. Abramoff's lobbying work for some Guam judges.(NYT)

Who issued that order "barring him from pursuing public corruption cases"?

The DoJ, of course

The colleagues said that Mr. Black was also surprised when his newly arrived bosses in Guam blocked him from involvement in public corruption cases in 2003. Justice Department officials said Mr. Black was asked instead to focus on terrorism investigations, which had taken on new emphasis after the Sept. 11 attacks.(NYT)

Black was royally screwed here-he couldn't investigate Abramoff, yet when he focused on Homeland Security & lax immigration standards on the Northern Marianas islands, and showed that there was a threat to US naval interests in the area for routine stopovers/port calls, he was reassigned after being demoted

To put it more simply

Black was punished for doing EXACTLY what he was told

At the time of Abramoff's complaints regarding the DHS report, he was pulling in $3.5 million annually from his Northern Marianas Islands clients, including family owned sweatshops that lobbied against strengthening any environmental or workplace safety standards/laws passed by the US Congress

It's important to note that having a highly transient labor pool is to the Sweatshop owners financial advantage on the NM islands, it's also important to note that the DHS report painted this fact in a negative light for Abramoff & clients

Restricting immigration could be a blow to the economy of the Marianas, which is located about three-quarters of the way to the Philippines from Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean......The Marianas have almost five times as many foreign workers as native workers and aren't subject to U.S. minimum-wage laws. That helps them export such goods as T-shirts, caps and pants cheaply to the U.S., all labeled ``made in USA...... Abramoff lobbied against efforts to tighten those laws. The islands have 28,717 foreign workers, compared with 6,006 natives, in the labor force, according to Central Intelligence Agency statistics.'' (BLMB)

It’s this group, the Northern Marianas Islands interests, that prevailed upon Abramoff to constantly lobby their most dependable ally in the Congress, one who would stand fast against the do-gooders intent on tightening up the Islands abysmal workplace safety & environmental laws

Tom DeLay

Before moving on with more of Abramoff’s actions, just how much clout he really had in the GOP, it’s important to notice what the report is about that’s got Abramoff so concerned with it’s release, a mindset in which he actually saw the DoJ as an obstacle to his lobbying efforts

The 2002 report, a copy of which was obtained by Bloomberg News, warns that continued local control over the Marianas' borders will ``seriously jeopardize the national security'' of the U.S.”(BLMB)

Black also arranged for a security review in the aftermath of Sept. 11 that was seen as a potential threat to loose immigration rules favored by local business leaders. In fact, the study ordered by Black eventually cited substantial security risks in Guam and the Northern Marianas.(LAT)

The Justice Department report on the Marianas said the islands, which rely on tourism and are home to military facilities and visiting U.S. Navy vessels, ``offer a target-rich environment for terrorist activity.''

Under a 1976 covenant between the commonwealth and the U.S., immigration laws don't apply to the Marianas ``except in the manner and to the extent made applicable to them by the Congress.'' (BLMB)

Lets consider a few things here

Regarding a possible attack on US Naval interests in the NM Islands

I apologize in advance if it turns out that treaties block just the scenario I'm about to peruse, but would ask if another government should EVER take this Administration's claims at face value, with no attempt at verifying comments & facts?

Just for the sake of argument, what happens if there's an attack on a ship that's carrying a nuclear payload, say a submarine stopping over for a port of call?

Even scarier, what happens if a delayed-time explosive is set to go off just as such a ship or sub carrying a nuclear payload is pulling into it's home port or first stop?

It’s that focus on money to the exclusion of everything else that makes Abramoff’s lust for money so brazen & defiant of all logic

Abramoff, whose law firm was paid $3.5 million by the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, a U.S. territory, to lobby between 1998 and 2002, tried to block the report, according to an e-mail released this month by House Democrats.(BLMB)

Even more brazen is who tipped him off to that impending DHS report commissioned by Black & Meissner, one of the bigger guns at the DoJ

“In an Oct, 1, 2001, e-mail to the Marianas government, Abramoff said he was alerted to the pending immigration report by the Justice Department chief of staff, whom he hosted in his luxury box at a Washington Redskins football game. He said he would pass on to the government any information he received from the official. At the time, David Ayres was chief of staff...... In the e-mail, Abramoff warned that some ``bad guys'' in Justice had been saying the commonwealth ``if not taken over, will be a major entry point for terrorists. This, of course, is patently ridiculous and we have been working to counter this.''(BLMB)

“Patently Ridiculous” would usually apply to someone this filled with pure greed, except that in this case, it’s hard to see how Abramoff was exaggerating about the clout he possessed as the GOP’s superlobbyist

Abramoff said he would meet with then-Attorney General John Ashcroft. One of Abramoff's associates was Kevin Ring, who joined the firm after serving as counsel to a Judiciary subcommittee that Ashcroft chaired when he served in the U.S. Senate.

``We'll hope the higher ups will take some time to squash this on their own,'' Abramoff wrote.(BLMB)

Abramoff, who then represented the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, alerted his clients in a memo about the expected report and warned: "It will require some major action from the Hill and a press attack to get this back in the bottle."

The lobbyist also wrote that he and his aides expected to meet in the near future with Justice Department officials, according to Abramoff billing documents released this year by the Marianas government.”(LAT)

And now a more sinister puzzle-piece emerges, one in which the President himself actually obstructs an active DoJ investigation into the GOP's top lobbyist the day after it started, also picking that same day to announce the demoted US Attorney's successor

In Guam, an American territory in the Pacific, investigators were looking into Abramoff's secret arrangement with Superior Court officials to lobby against a court revision bill then pending in the U.S. Congress. The legislation, since approved, gave the Guam Supreme Court authority over the Superior Court.

In 2002, Abramoff was retained by the Superior Court in what was an unusual arrangement for a public agency. The Times reported in May that Abramoff was paid with a series of $9,000 checks funneled through a Laguna Beach lawyer to disguise the lobbyist's role working for the Guam court. No separate contract was authorized for Abramoff's work.

The transactions were the target of a grand jury subpoena issued Nov. 18, 2002, according to a copy obtained by The Times. The subpoena demanded that Anthony Sanchez, administrative director of the Guam Superior Court, release records involving the lobbying contract, including bills and payments.”(LAT)

Interesting, how records can be kept on someone who worked without a signed contract

Understand now that Abramoff's trying to rig the system, no other word for it, and the only logical reason that suggests itself is that Abramoff was buying insurance for an occasion such as having any kind of legal action stymied

So what was Abramoff so worried about that he attempted to game an overseas legal system for motives other than the financial?

And what could he offer the President to perform something as blatantly audacious as demote & reassign the US Attorney and the author of the DHS report?

A day later, the chief prosecutor, U.S. Atty. Frederick A. Black, who had launched the investigation, was demoted. A White House news release announced that Bush was replacing Black.(LAT)

The announcement came only days after Mr. Black had notified the department's public integrity division in Washington, by telephone and e-mail communication, that he had opened a criminal investigation into Mr. Abramoff's lobbying activities for the Guam judges, the colleague said. The judges had sought Mr. Abramoff's help in blocking a bill in Congress to restructure the island's courts.(NYT)

One Day Later, one day after launching the public investigation into Abramoff & his clients, Black was demoted & his successor appointed

The acting U.S. attorney was a controversial official in Guam. At the time he was removed, Black was directing a long-term investigation into allegations of public corruption in the administration of then-Gov. Carl Gutierrez. The inquiry produced numerous indictments, including some of the governor's political associates and top aides.

Black also arranged for a security review in the aftermath of Sept. 11 that was seen as a potential threat to loose immigration rules favored by local business leaders. In fact, the study ordered by Black eventually cited substantial security risks in Guam and the Northern Marianas.(LAT)

The DHS report Black commissioned that painted lax immigration standards as enabling a possible strike on US Naval interests in the region of the Marianas islands not only gets suppressed from politicians required, by statute, to receive a copy, but also ends up getting Black & it's author Meissner reassigned

There’s no positive or logical spin that can be applied here, no way for the President to appear as anything but a hired enforcer of the most thuggish type, one more at home amongst the Saddam Hussein’s of the World as opposed to speaking unscripted in front of a hostile/skeptical audience asking questions not preapproved in advance of the proceedings

Which now brings us to the part of the puzzle Rove himself played a huge part in, Setting up Black's successor as US Attorney for Guam & the Marianas islands

Black's successor, Leonardo Rapadas, was confirmed in May 2003 without any debate. Rapadas had been recommended by the Guam Republican Party for the job. Fred Radewagen, a lobbyist who had been under contract to the Gutierrez administration, said he carried that recommendation to top Bush aide Karl Rove in early 2003.

After taking office, Rapadas recused himself from the ongoing public corruption case involving Gutierrez. The new U.S. attorney was a cousin of "one of the main targets," according to a confidential memo to Justice Department officials.(NYT)

Oh the double unintended irony here, a lobbyist under contract to an investigated Governor makes the recommendation of who should take over said investigation, and one of his first acts is to recuse himself from the case against Gov Gutierrez due to family members being investigated

All of which is particularly ironic, as an op/ed article Rapados wrote is full fo the Fire & Brimstone Thundering Legal Authority Bushco & crew are so smitten with-have to scroll down to see the entry, but the title is

Mandatory Minimum Sentences Keep Streets Safe

Keep this "Tough Line" approach to incarceration in mind when considering the damage that Abramoff, Ralph Reed, Michael Scanlon & Sen. John Cornyn did to the Tigua Tribe, approx. 1000 employees thrown out of well-paying jobs with real benefits, a genuine economic turnaround for a group of people who desparaterly needed it, and all taken away by the State of Texas, which claimed that even though it ran the lottery, there was no gambling allowed in the State of Texas, an argument cheerfully & enthusiastically backed by Tx Attorney General John Cornyn, one of the Senate's dimmest of bulbs

Even more interesting, check out the date W publicly announced Rapados nomination

Date of Announcement: November 19, 2002

The day Rapados was nominated was the SAME day as Black's demotion from investigating the GOP's top lobbyist, effectively ending the day-old investigation and both actions were carried out by President Jr

Now it becomes almost blindingly obvious that the President actively obstructed not only a DoJ investigation, but also at the very least, turned a blind eye towards the suppression of a Congressionally mandated report dealing with lax immigration standards that could jeopardize US Naval interests on the Northern Marianas islands

So why would the President engage in jaw-droppingly blatant investiagtion obstruction, what could Abramoff possibly offer W to undertake such a public action?

What if W didn't financially or materially gain from carrying out such a request, what if, instead, he was obstructing the investigation by, say, paying back an Abramoff debt that was hanging over his head as a result of a interestingly-timed campaign contribution by Abramoff himself, and the headline itself provides one possible payoff for W to obstruct an active DoJ investigation

Bush Florida 2000 recount committee still owes lobbyist's former firm $314k

There’s a backstory that lurks behind Bush’s decision to stand by DeLay. It involves Greenberg Traurig, the firm that employed the powerful lobbyist who paid for palatial DeLay junkets, and Abramoff staffers, who were footsoldiers in the Florida recount. Greenberg Traurig has yet to receive more than $314,000 in legal fees charged to a Bush committee during the 2000 Florida recount, RAW STORY can confirm.

As a corporation, Greenberg’s unpaid tab represents a massive in-kind campaign contribution, far larger than anything that went unreported by DeLay. But it appears to be legal: corporations are allowed to donate any amount to the nebulous type of committee employed during the recount. It would, however, violate the committee's self-imposed $5,000 contribution limit from individual donors.

We also find out another form of the clout so important to the GOP's method of governing, "show us the money"

Abramoff relationship with Bush

Bush has largely ducked the scandals surrounding Abramoff, but he was certainly a beneficiary of the lobbyist’s fundraising: Abramoff was a Bush Pioneer, raising more than $120,000 for the 2004 presidential campaign.

He had the largest lobbyist accounts of any Pioneer, at $26 million.....Those close to Abramoff—including his partner Michael Scanlon, a former DeLay press secretary who is also being investigated for lobbying deals—bragged about their access to the president....."Jack has a relationship with the President," Scanlon told the New Times Broward-Palm Beach in February 2001. "He doesn't have a bat phone or anything, but if he wanted an appointment, he would have one."

So, Abramoff having major access to the top levels of the GOP & Bush Administration isn't just hyperbole, it's a known policy throughout the GOP, and I would venture that W paying off a campaign debt by not only obstructing an ongoing investigation into the GOP's top lobbyist, but by replacing the US Attorney with a loyal party apparatchik who talked the tough "Law & Order" talk, but did NOT walk the "Law & Order" walk when it came to going after public corruption charges against Abramoff, isn't the oddest of charges, but one seriously worth considering, especially in light of past hapless personnel appointed by President Bush Jr

In effect, it appears one can infer that Rapadas nomination was cleared by both Abramoff & Karl Rove before being announced by the President on the same day as US Attorney Black's demotion after a one-day investigation of Abramoff's lobbying & clients

So, if Abramoff did indeed go about setting up the legal system to his liking-until the bill passed that gave judicial superiority to the Guam Supreme Court over the Guam Superior court-then what was he planning on doing next?

Bypass registration with www.bugmenot.com and this is an article that will really fill in the gaps on the short explanation below

Well, again, infer from what would fit the facts, but we know this

Untangling a Lobbyist's Stake in a Casino Fleet

The Sun Cruz line of Casino Yachts-ships which sailed outside jurisdictional waters, so as to then allow gambling among the passengers-that seemed like such a wonderful acquisition for Adam Kidan & Jack Abramoff, a transaction in which they swindled both the casino yachts' owner & their creditors by forging a $23 million letter of credit, was going down publicly, after a particularly nasty flap that ensued between Abramoff's political lackeys Bob Ney & Tom DeLay and the ripped off owner legally required to sell his share of the Sun Cruz casino yachts line

It's at that point, while Abramoff's most brazen chicanery was coming unraveled publicly, that he may have thought that Sun Cruz might be more at home in foreign waters

After Boulis's slaying, Kidan and Abramoff conducted business as usual at SunCruz. They asked Foothill Capital for another loan to clear up their debts. They stepped up plans to expand casino operations to the Northern Mariana Islands, where the government had been a client of Abramoff's. They also hired Greenberg Traurig as their lobbyists in Washington.

Not only would such an undertaking be in a welcome part of the world for Abramoff, the Northern Marianas, where he was their chief lobbyist who didn't have a problem ethically with making money off the females working in god-awful sweatshop conditions, but with a legal system ginned up to ensure that Abramoff's interests (Sun Cruz) & clients could operate with a friendly blind eye on the part of the NM islands political & legal authorities, this scheme could have rewarded Abramoff far more than even ripping off the Tribal Clients did

But that dream borne of desperation sank harder than the Titanic, when legislation passed that affirmed the legal primacy of the Guam Supreme Court over the Guam Superior Court

Still troubling though is the entire story around the demotion of US Attorney Frederick Black, rpublicly demoted one day after launching an investigation into Abramoff's Superior Court Clients, then reassigned due to his commissioning of a DHS report that pointed up a possibility of an attack against a US Naval interest due to lax immigration standards on the Northern Marianas islands

The same lax immigration standards faulted by the ultimately delayed/suppressed DHS report are the same standards which ensure a highly transient workforce, and constant turnover at the sweatshops is financially beneficial to the owners' fiscal health, a fact attested to by the fact that they were paying Abramoff $3.5 million annually at the height of his crushing GOP clout

And there's one other loose series of threads to tie up, and that would be the other reason for why Black was demoted & ultimately reassigned

The acting U.S. attorney was a controversial official in Guam. At the time he was removed, Black was directing a long-term investigation into allegations of public corruption in the administration of then-Gov. Carl Gutierrez. The inquiry produced numerous indictments, including some of the governor's political associates and top aides.(LAT)

Now one other thing is interesting here

A lawyer for Gutierrez discussed hiring Abramoff to represent Guam's territorial government in 2002 before the grand jury inquiry began. The discussions were held at Abramoff-owned Signature's Restaurant here, according to two sources with direct knowledge of the meeting. They provided details on condition of anonymity.(LAT)

Interesting

The investigated Governor sent a lawyer to meet with the about-to-be-investigated superlobbyist, both of whom had the same legal problem-Frederick Black

How's this for a scenario?

Abramoff gets tipped off to the DHS report alleging lax immigration standards by October 1, 2001-at the latest-and by November 2002, after consultation with both Rove & the DoJ under John Ashcroft, Rove & Abramoff decided to have the troublesome US Attorney Black replaced with Leonardo Rapadas, a scenario that fits the following

In a statement on Monday, the department said it was natural for the Bush administration to replace Mr. Black, whose assignment to run the United States attorney's office was never meant to be permanent, with a White House selection.

The department said the vetting process for Mr. Black's replacement, Leonardo Rapadas, the current United States attorney, was ''well under way in November 2002,'' when the nomination was announced.(NYT)

No reason to think all these decisions aren't tied in together, absolutely no reason to think that DoJ vetting of Rapadas, "well under way in November 2002" was done in conjunction with both Abramoff & Karl Rove

We know the FBI & DoJ have run their own investigation regarding Black's demotion, the question is whether they'll follow up on the investigations or not

I don't usually rip myself off, but I thought this rant I whipped up in under 30 minutes was one of my better efforts to self-plagiarize.

Also included at the start of the rant are replies to various posters, and some end up showing the futility of going unarmed into a battle of wits and rants with ol' kc

So, in that respect, I take my soapbox and gnash my teeth, wailing over the problems befalling the increasingly hapless GOP

In the end, Abramoff, Rove, Grover Norquist & DeLay all were operating from the same mindset, that of ensuring a permanent one-party political superiority with just enough Democrats to ensure the appearance of a real political opposition

The moneymaking flood that engulfed the GOP via Abramoff, DeLay, Ralph Reed, Grover Norquist, Adam Kidan & Michael Scanlon washed away all pretensions of "law abiding" for the GOP as a whole & "Ethically consistent" in particular for members of the GOP

In their world, thinking small was a result that yielded nowhere near the profits that pushing dollar amounts to their legal, moral & ethical edge did

When raking in wave after swollen wave of ill-gotten campaign contributions & lobbying funds, it becomes easy to think of political power, huge amounts of money & real-world influence as all tied up in a form of deservedly inherited "divine leadership from above", and all who don't agree with such rosy platitudes as the "enemy" seeking to bring down the popular society, ie "the world & its political levers just the way I like them-with MY hands in charge"

It's that arrogance that's led to the present day problems the GOP is being overwhelmed with via the political tidal wave named "Jack Abramoff"

It's an attitude of unrepentant hubris that's befouling-justifiably-the present day GOP leadership of both the politcal & extreme-religious wing of the GOP

It took the Dems 40 years to reach the point of public distaste hard enough to dislodge the House from the Dems leadership, it's only taken the GOP 10 years to achieve the same public disgust

It becomes harder & harder to defend ideologies that see nebulous gay agendas behind the most goofy & sweet-tempered of cartoon characters, deliberately outing CIA agents for political pique, pushing an extremely grotesque perversion under the misnamed "family values" in the Terri Schiavo GOP Fiasco and a War President who insanely blithers that the only way to honor those killed in a war in no way needed by the US is to get more underequipped-via enough effective body & vehicle armor-troops killed as well

This is a party, the GOP, that insists on bearing upon the backs of the poorest, sickest & youngest of US citizens the harsh fiscal realities endemic to passing & permanently extending tax cuts that overwhelmingly benefit only those at the very top of the already shrinking skinny economic ladder

Any party that sends US troops into battle underequipped with body & vehicle armor, balances huge tax cuts & permanent extensions of said cuts against the real-world programs that serve the weakest, youngest & most needy in this society, pushes a grotesque "anti-individual" agenda in the falsely named "family values" case embodied by Terri Schiavo and deliberately overlooks it's responsibility to keep the Executive Branch in politcal check as the most shameless lapdogs & lackeys of the Administration is NOT the party that can best keep the US and it's people safe, something we all saw when the President decided to stay on Vacation for an additional trhee days after Katrina hit, New Orleans drowned, and people died waiting for their Government which so drastically & miserably failed when it counted the most

Just watch though, the damage that the Good Ship Abramoff is about to wreak on the GOP is going to be worse in terms of ended & disgraced political careers than even Watergate inflicted on the Republicans

Worse Than Watergate

Wow, one of Tom DeLay's former slugs attitude is sure mighty fuckin' white, particularly over that nettlesome press & media

Lobby Firm Is Scandal Casualty

Alexander Strategy Group, which had thrived since its founding in 1998 thanks largely to its close connections to DeLay (R-Tex.), will cease to operate except for a relatively small business-development division, Edwin A. Buckham, the former top DeLay aide who owns the company, said yesterday.

Buckham said in a telephone interview that the company was fatally damaged by publicity about the ongoing federal investigation into the affairs of Abramoff, who pleaded guilty last week to fraud and conspiracy charges

********************************************

Buckham said that he will be leaving the lobbying business and hasn't any regrets. "I'm at peace with all this," he said. "I'm not bitter. I'm not resentful. I harbor no ill feelings toward anyone. The important thing in life is having a clean heart and I do. I'm not even upset with the press."

REALLY?!?!?!?!

You're NOT upset with the press, interesting, considering that just a few paragraphs in the story, Buckham says this

"Reports in the press have made it difficult to continue as a lobbying/political entity," Buckham said.

And here's some of that pesky reporting Buckham claims NOT to be troubled by

Buckham's firm employed DeLay's wife, Christine, for four years. It also benefited by working closely with Abramoff. Abramoff's plea agreement mentioned his close ties to Tony C. Rudy, one of Buckham's colleagues at ASG, identified in the court papers as "Staffer A."

I think more & more of those around DeLay need to up their meds, especially if they're as seemingly schizophrenic and vacuous as Buckham appears

Hey,

Whatever Happened To Soy Bomb?

And when reading the article, trust me, replace the name "Portnoy" with the word "Bomb" and watch how much funnier the story gets

Wow, Pat Robertson REALLY made an ass of himself again-well, even moreso than usual

Robertson 'said Sharon being punished by God'

Rev. Pat Robertson has claimed the deteriorating health of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is divine punishment for a soft stance on Israel. Sharon, who turns 78 next month, is currently believed to be in critical condition following a cerebral hemorrhage.

Robertson also pointed to the November 1995 assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin as further evidence that God is punishing leaders willing to divide Israel.

*********************************************

"Ladies and Gentlemen I said last year that Israel was entering into the most dangerous periods of its entire existence as a nation. That is intensifying this year with the loss of Sharon. Sharon was personally a very likeable person and I am sad to see him in this condition, but I think we need to look at the Bible and the Book of Joel. The prophet Joel makes it very clear that God has enmity against those who 'divide my land.' God considers this land to be His. You read the Bible and He says 'this is my land' and for any Prime Minister of Israel who decides he is going to carve it up and give it away, God says 'no, this is mine.' I had a wonderful meeting with Yitzhak Rabin in 1974. He was tragically assassinated, it was a terrible thing that happened but nevertheless he was dead. And now Ariel Sharon who again was a very likeable person, a delightful person to be with, I prayed with him personally, but here he's at the point of death. He was dividing God's land and I would say woe unto any Prime Minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the EU, the United Nations, or the United States of America. God says 'this land belongs to me. You'd better leave it alone.'"

Really, God says "this land belongs to me. You'd better leave it alone" eh?

Uhm, Brother Pat, does that remark apply to Christian Theme Parks based in Isarel as well?

A theme park for the Holy Land?

With that in mind, the Israeli ministry of tourism has gone public with a plan to build - in partnership primarily with American Evangelical churches - a sprawling Holy Land Christian Center on the northern shores of the Sea of Galilee, home to some of the most notable chapters in Jesus' ministry. The center, to be built on approximately 125 acres that the Israeli government is offering free of cost, would be a Christian theme park and visitors' center, one that would be particularly attractive to Evangelicals and other Christians who want to spend more time in the places where Jesus walked.

Highlights may include a Holy Bible Garden, full of plants and trees mentioned in the New Testament, and equipped with quiet sites for reflection and prayer. A Sea of Galilee Amphitheater will overlook the mouth of the Jordan River and hold 1,500-2,000 worshippers. And the park will have a Christian Experience Auditorium and a Multimedia Center. The center would also feature an online broadcast center, which would give religious leaders an opportunity to address their followers back home, live, near the tranquil blue waters of the Sea of Galilee (which today is considered a lake).

And I suppose God turns a convenient blind eye at one of the proposed park's most enthusiastic backers

"It thrills me to think that there will be a place in the Galilee where Evangelical Christians from all over the world can come to celebrate the actual place where Jesus Christ lived and taught. It will be our pleasure to fully cooperate with this initiative of the Israeli Government," says Mr. Robertson

Yes, THAT Mr Robertson, the one who said that it's God's land, and that God said to leave it alone

Oh well, at least the Israelis get something out of the deal that will undoubtedly be the hardest condition for those in a mood to convert their Jewish neighbors, they'll not be allowed to bother & pester nonChristians

And bowing to protests from Orthodox Jewish groups, the Christian partners will have to agree not to go out and proselytize to local Jewish Israelis.

Brother Pat, pull out of this wicked venture that will be nothing more than a modern day version of the moneychangers offering their wares in the Temple, the ones that Jesus drove from the temple himself in a fit of righteous rage, wrath & fury

After all, you're the one who said God said to leave that land alone

Sometimes, it's just way too easy to slamdunk the GOPbots trying their Darth Vader best to fool everyone with their Jedi Mind Tricks

Alito Gets High Marks From Bar Association

Relevant Excerpt

The American Bar Assn.'s decision to give Alito its highest rating was highlighted Wednesday by White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan, who told reporters that "leading Senate Democrats have said in the past that the ABA rating is the 'gold standard' for evaluating judicial nominees."

And two from the BREITBART article

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist-"Judge Alito is right on track to become Justice Alito, and today's announcement of the ABA rating demonstrates what an overwhelming majority of Americans already believe, that Judge Sam Alito is unquestionably well-qualified to serve on our nations highest court."

Tx Senator John Cornyn-"Unfortunately, the hard left groups decided long before these ratings were announced that they would oppose his nomination. "And some Senate Democrats, including some who have previously described the ABA's evaluation as the gold standard, will now dismiss the rating as meaningless."

The GOP's touting of Alito's ABA recommendation is rather amusing in light of one little ironic fact

March 23, 2001-"White House ends ABA's role in screening judicial nominees"

The Bush White House Thursday formally ended the American Bar Association's role as an early arbiter of the qualifications for nominees to the federal bench and the Supreme Court....."The decision was based on the principle that the American Bar Association should not receive a preferential role over all other interested parties," said McClellan. "We welcome their input and they will continue to have an important role in the process."

D'OH!!!

DOUBLE D'OH!!!

In its letter to the American Bar Association, Gonzales said the ABA voice on nominees should not be "heard before and above all others" and that the historic arrangement with previous administrations was "preferential" and neither "appropriate or fair."

"As Senator Biden asked in 1994, 'Why the ABA and not the National Bar Association?," wrote Gonzales. "The same question could be asked with respect to numerous other groups."

Indeed, especially considering the White House is now lauding the group today without ever having rescinded its Anti-ABA policy

Even another helping of D'OH!!!

The Bush White House pointed to examples in the past in which the American Bar Association did not screen federal judicial candidates.

Unfortunately for this tactic, the Bush Jr Administration has been the First & Only group to end the ABA's Screening & Qualifications functions regarding judicial nominees

And especially ironic-The GOP Senators' rather "High-Five"ish group hug/circle-jerk of love, mutual "pat on the back" society's gloating, in regards to this change in Administrative policy

The Senate Republican leadership sent a letter to President Bush Thursday "to congratulate" him on ending "the special and underserved role" of the ABA in selecting judges.

"While the ABA has been and remains an important organization devoted to improving the quality of legal practice in this country, its decision to increase its focus on politics has undermined its ability to provide an objective review of judicial nominations and justifies your decision," the letter read.

And yet another attempt to deflect ending the ABA's role back in 2001, claiming a major Dem favored eliminating the ABA's role as well

The official also said Griffin Bell, Attorney General in the Carter Administration, said in a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee that he believed the bar group should be eliminated from the judicial selection process

Doesn't matter, W's is the only Administration to pull back the ABA's role in the judicial nomination process

And let's wrap up with a passage that evokes memories along the lines of "You can help best by sitting down quietly.....Over there"

The Bush administration said it welcomed the bar association to play the same role as other groups once a nominee is announced.

"The administration fully welcomes the ABA, like other interested parties, to provide suggestions regarding potential judges," wrote Gonzales. "Once the president submits a nomination to the Senate, the ABA like every other interested party is free to evaluate and express its views concerning the president's nominee."

Dear Lord
Let your "D'OH!!!" lacking flock get their fair share of this especially goofy Schadenfreude over this latest GOP imbroglio

Sick, Sick, Sick, Sick Evil Scum Sucking Vile Repulsive & Arrogant Moral and Ethical Hypocrites

This group of theological thugs, bullies & extremists are losing their grip on political power, and since they know they can't reverse their inevitable decline, they intend to make as many nonbelieveing/unwilling others as miserable as they are

Two small posts from the same page
cannot go unresponded to, it's bullying of the worst, most arrogant sort, a bullying that spreads misery, pain and anguish to those already hurting, and these theological bullies pervert the teachings of their supposed Messiah, a deity they dishonor & blaspheme against at EVERY opportunity, here are some PERFECT examples of the Modern Day Pharisees, both individual and group mindset

Due to understandably letting their defenses down-thanks to lack of sleep among other reasons-having that joy put through the most brutal of mental & emotional meatgrinders by hearing the real death toll of their loved ones in the Sago Mine, those families have undergone the most horrific of public experiences

How many of us were absolutely thankful that wasn't us or any people we cared about, how many of us felt that very thankful layer of necessary detachment that let us both feel like we were kicked in the gut BUT without the mindnumbing, heartwrenching grief that strikes any survivors whose loved ones die the most public of deaths?

Keep all that crushing, overwhelming & devastating grief in a West Virginia town in the front of your memory when reading this

Where do you even start to bitchslap this jerkoff for all the malicious joy at others' suffering he's spouting off here?

The absolute coldness with that passage should convince all that it's not Christ they worship, not the Christ of the new Testament,

Don't let the calm affect fool you, even though he's not using any exclamation marks in his speaking, Schenck's definitely excited by the thought of God grimly punishing those not sanctimonious enough to the liking of the God the Modern Day Pharisees worship

Just how in the HELL were the families NOT worthy of God's hearing & acting on their prayers, why would a God who created all time and space insist on cruelly raising the formerly dashed hopes of previously grieving families only to dash those hopes even more cruelly than before?

Does Schenck even understand the pain his attitude deliberately inflicts on the grieving survivors, how in the world is his weak-faithed, hypocritical moralizing indicative of ANY of Christ's qualities in the New Testament?

I want him to point out publicly, just where in the New Testament Jesus agreed with inflicting that cruel pain & callous heart on those suffering and turning to Christ for the strength to carry on during the most horrific of public ordeals

He calls himself a "Christian"?

Then let him humble himself before God-PUBLICLY-begging forgiveness of his hard attitude towards those already in a deeper state of grief than any of us would like or consent to

Or we could go with the logical, the stuff that's easy enough to check out

Names, verifiable facts that people have been persecuted by the Federal Government and punished or incarcerated for the sole or even primary reason of being a Christian-as long as that version of "Christian" is based in the New Testament

I want to see houses lost, I want to see revoked or called-in-far-too-early mortgages, I want to see money taken out of wallets & food taken off tables, on numerous experiences no less, before I'll ever believe such an idiotic claim that the majority religion in this country is under Governmental assault that locks people up, costs them their jobs, friends & families and all on the basis of where they spend 1 hour per week praising the same God they ignore so blatantly during the week.

In short, with Schenk's claim, I'm not taking it on faith, I want verifiable facts & evidence

Sorry, can't believe in the Old Testament AND Jesus at the same time, not logically

Schenck is not a "Christian", he's an "Old Testamentalist", far more at home when dreaming of all the righteous wrath God inflicted on those weak-faithed, or even unbelieving, grieving survivors of the Sago Disaster

And just when you can't get any more angered or appalled, while Brother Schenck's attitude WAS reprehensible-from the perspective of honoring Christ-it didn't cause the real world damage THESE miserable slugs did these idiots filed a legal brief to help stop a lesbian couple from jointly adopting a 1 year old

Nevertheless, the two lesbian women who were providing foster care for the one-year-old filed their petition and were granted the adoption. However, the Morgan Juvenile Court ruled it invalid under Indiana law. Glen Lavy, senior vice president of ADF's Marriage Litigation Center, says two unmarried adults living together are legally ineligible to adopt a child for good reason. "Indiana adoption laws reflect the fact that cohabitation is not the equivalent of marriage," he asserts, "and these laws are set in place for the protection of children. Adoption should always be in the child's best interests." ADF filed its amicus brief at the invitation of the Indiana Court of Appeals. The brief points out that adoption laws must be consistent with state family law and granting a joint adoption petition to unmarried couples is inconsistent with established Indiana law. The brief also notes that studies indicate children fare better when raised by a married mother and father.

Understand-the women are probably going to lose on the legal challenge, although at some point that horrible oversight will be corrected by letting gay couples take care of Foster kids and adopt unwanted children that so many individuals & couples refuse to do

And the last line

Randy Wenger, the ADF-allied attorney who wrote the brief, says this case "shouldn't be about politics and catering to a radical left-wing agenda," but should instead focus on what is best for the child.

So, "Best For The Child"=yet another group of self-appointed bluenoses, moralizers & ethicists who find it better to actively tear an adopted foster child apart from parents who obviously care for the child as much and as deeply as any blood related family

Obviously it's better to cause immense & excruciating pain to foster & adoptive parents than it is for the child to live in a happy, stable home with enthusiastically doting parents

How does tearing the family apart square with Jesus' mission to comfort the poor, the sick & the powerless amongst us?

I missed that part of the Gospels, where Christ urged his followers/believers to go out and needlessly torment a child in need of a good & stable home, and all because the God who created the Universe, all space, and all time, is gravely troubled by the sexual preferences of God's creations

As Christians, where, SPECIFICALLY-in the New Testament were the ADF & Wenger charged by God or Jesus to make life as miserable as possible for children simply because one finds the parents sexual preference unacceptable to their own lives or attitudes or mindsets?

Make no mistake, these self-appointed, misery-inflicting, pain-loving junkies like Schenck, Wenger and the ADF are NO Christians, not if the Christ they're referencing is the one in the New Testament

They'd have not only held Jesus down, they'd have placed the Crown of Thorns on his head, pound the nails through his wrists & feet and pierce Christ's side with the spear, mocking him all the while

The misery inflicters, the Modern Day Pharisees are losing their hold on political power, they know they can't stop it, they know they're on their way-properly so-to the rubbish heap of history

And they believe that by shrilly making everyone else's life a living hell, they can stave off their complete fall from grace for at least another hour, another month, another year

They're slipping on the edge of already unstable, overdrenched sand, and God's sending a rain of water and a flood of banana peels their way
